Former French Health Minister Agnès Buzyn is being formally investigated for how she handled the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prosecutors said Buzyn was under investigation for “endangering the lives of others” after stepping down in February 2020 after running for mayor of Paris.
This is one of the first cases in the world of a ministry legally held accountable for dealing with the pandemic.
Ms Buzyn could also face charges of “failing to fight a catastrophe”, according to Le Monde.
At a court hearing on Friday, the 58-year-old said she welcomed the opportunity to explain herself and “prove the truth”, the AFP news agency reported.
