A drone strike has taken place at Erbil International Airport in Iraq. The news was confirmed by Kurdish security officials. The latter say three rockets had landed near the airport.
While in a second announcement they stated that the attacks were carried out by drones loaded with explosives.
“There are no casualties in the attack by two armed drones,” the statement said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties but witnesses said they heard at least six explosions in the area.
Lawk Ghafuri, head of foreign media relations for the Kurdistan Regional Government, said on Twitter that Kurdish security forces were investigating the incident.
“The drone was carrying explosive devices and exploded away from the terminals and territories of Erbil International Airport. No casualties were reported, “said Ghafuri.
The airport, which also serves as a base for US-led coalition forces, suffered no damage, according to director Ahmed Hochiar.
