Two people have been left dead by a tornado that hit the small Italian island, Pantelleria. The tornado hit the island in southern Sicily during the early hours of last night.
“Due to the big storm, the pillars were bent, the roofs were damaged and the trees fell,” firefighters said, the AP reported. This island is inhabited mainly by people who are on vacation.
Italian news agency ANSA said a firefighter and an 86-year-old man were among the dead. The victims were in cars, which flew into the air and overturned, and at least one car fell on the roof, while the other had its front broken.
Nine people are among the injured, two of whom are in critical condition, Pantelleria Mayor Vincenzo Vittorio Campo told Sky TG24 TV, and so far there is no information on the missing.
