Japanese authorities noted that half of the country’s population has received two doses of the new coronavirus vaccine (COVID-19).
A member of the Japanese government cabinet in charge of implementing the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Yashutoshi Nishimura, said the country wants to achieve the level of immunization marked by developed European countries.
He said they want to maintain the immunization trend and by the end of September increase the rate of vaccinated adults to 60 per cent.
“We will have real effects in curbing the spread of the coronavirus when we reach an immunization rate of 80 percent,” Nishimura said.
Japan has a population of 126 million and the voluntary immunization campaign against COVID-19 began in February this year.AA
