The travel ban for people living in the UK and EU, imposed last March by Donald Trump, will finally be eased.
An announcement expected shortly from the White House stated that those who could demonstrate double vaccination would be allowed to enter the United States from November.
A British official told me that the decision had come quite unexpectedly. Prime Minister Boris Johnson had planned to raise the issue tomorrow at his meeting at the White House with the president, but with little hope of making progress.
Although details have not been given, it is thought that the relaxation of the rules will come in time for people to travel during Thanksgiving.
This has been something that was sought after by the travel industry – but most importantly for thousands of families who have not been able to see their loved ones for 18 months as a result of restrictions placed at the height of the pandemic.
