The President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, criticized the rich countries for “collecting” the vaccines developed against the new coronavirus (COVID-19).
In his speech at the 76th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, Duterte stated that rich countries are collecting life-saving vaccines, while poor countries are waiting for vaccine “drops”.
Stressing that the situation of distributing COVID-19 vaccines is dire, Duterte said, “This is a man-made vaccine drought that is destroying poor countries.”
Duterte has criticized the collection of COVID-19 vaccines from rich countries. “The truth is that this pandemic will not end if this virus does not end everywhere,” he said.
In his speech, Duterte stated that this situation should be condemned as a selfish act that is logically and morally wrong.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University, about 17 percent (19 million people) in the Philippines are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.AA
