At least 34 people have been killed and seven injured after gunmen attacked a village in Nigeria’s northwestern state of Kaduna.
“Unidentified gunmen attacked the village of Madamai in Kaura. 34 residents have been confirmed dead after the attack. Seven others were injured, “said State Security Commissioner Samuel Aruwan on Monday, adding that the attack took place late Sunday.
Aruwan added that two suspects have been questioned in connection with the attack.
Also Sunday, gunmen attacked a church in Kachia district of Kaduna state.
“One person was killed and several worshipers were seriously injured,” Aruwan said in a separate statement.
Criminal gangs known locally as thugs have terrorized northwestern and central Nigeria for years, but they have become more brazen in recent months and the military has resumed operations in the region. These bandits attack villages, steal cattle, snatch for ransom, and burn houses.
