At least 34 people have been killed and several homes razed to the ground by gunmen in the Nigerian state of Kaduna over the weekend.
A large number of attackers occupied the villages of Madamai and Abun in the Kaura Local Government Area on Sunday.
Luka Binniyat, spokesman for the People’s Union of South Kaduna, said 10 members of a family were among those killed.
Derek Christopher, a former coordinator of the Kaura Youth Coalition, said gunmen invaded communities and started firing sporadically.
Some of the victims were taken to hospital for treatment, he added.
State Home Affairs Commissioner Samuel Aruwan confirmed the attack and estimated the death toll at 34.
He said an investigation into the attacks had been ordered, adding that two suspects were being questioned.AA
