From sun-drenched villas hidden by a tranquil lake to bustling city apartments, this may be the time to invest in one, after almost 18 months of work from home and travel restrictions.
Euronews Travel wants us to dream a little. What if you could buy a private island for the same price as an apartment in Europe?
Below are some vacation spots that can cost less than a two bedroom apartment in Spain, with large spaces and a host of other features. Every property here is included in Private Island Magazine which owns one of the largest databases in the world.
6. Big Tancook Island, New Scotland -56,898 €
Big Tancook Island is actually on the market as an island plot, which may mean you can buy a part of the island for a family complex, a hotel or a campsite. A space in this Canadian province is fantastic for those who like a simple life. The rocky coast and secluded lakes are much loved by fishermen, some of whom make up the small group of 125 people living there.
5. Danhattan Island, USA – € 263,281
Dreamers of wooden houses look no further. Danhattan Island in Connecticut is ready with a chalet (wooden lodge) that can accommodate eight people. The half-acre land is located in Ashland Pond, and buyers have preference at the anchorage ports there, as the deal also includes a boat. Yes, a whole boat!
4. Majestic Island, USA – € 274,982
Lake Beaver Dam in Wisconsin is home to less than 26 islands with original names across its 6,718-acre stretch. Majestic is probably one of the most absurd, but does it really matter when you are sitting in this vast expanse of private island?
Majestic is the ideal place to do quiet activities, surrounded by Beaver Dam animal life.
3. Bocal Island, Nicaragua – € 292,535
Here we are entering a resort territory. This island also includes a two-bedroom guest house, a caring home, a fantastic swimming pool, a cement bridge and miles of sandy beaches.
It actually had to have a higher price, because of Nicaragua’s wonderful surface and tropical climate. Meanwhile the owner is doing a series of renovation works on the island structures, for this reason, the lucky buyer in the future will have a lot to expect.
2. Isla Carabana Sol, Panama – € 336,782
This place is completed with a pier for mooring sailboats, a place for motorboats and a property with two separate apartments. Most likely it was designed by people who have the holidays in mind, because of the extra features: a raised barbecue bridge, a whirlpool tub, a tiki lodge, a private sandy beach and a private lagoon with clear water .
In order not to feel isolated from the world, the island also offers good Wifi and telephone signal and is located a short boat distance from numerous bars and restaurants.
1. Iguana Island, Nicaragua – € 396,951
The most expensive island from our research has 5 hectares of white sandy beaches and tropical forests where it rains a lot, with coconut palms and banana trees, in maximum privacy. The property includes a house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a beautiful veranda, a dining room, a bar, a living area as well as accommodation for staff. There is also a promenade that stretches along the island and a watchtower.
All for the price of a studio apartments (apartment with a single, large space, where the living room, dining room and bedroom are combined) in Paris, London or Rome.
