FRANCA
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is convicted with 1 year in prison by a Court in Paris for illegal campaign financing and overspending in 2012.
This decision comes 6 months after he was found guilty of corruption in another trial, while today Sarkozy was absent from court.
He sought a second term as President in 2012, but was unable to face his opponent Hollande.
His spending went to at least 42.8m euros from 22.4 that was the limit. He then contracted a company called Bygmalion that set up a fake billing system to hide the real cost of Sarkozy’s spending on that campaign.
