US President Joe Biden said on Saturday that he would “work tirelessly” to secure congressional approval of both the trillion-dollar infrastructure bill and its social programs and plans to travel. instead of mobilizing support for them among Americans.
Mr Biden was in the Capitol on Friday, trying to end a battle between the moderate and left-wing progressives in his Democratic Party that has jeopardized the fate of two bills that are at the heart of his domestic policy agenda.
The president on Saturday acknowledged criticism that he had not done enough to secure support for the bills by traveling to various states.
Mr Biden said he would go across the country “to argue why this is so important” and to explain to citizens what the two bills contain.
He said he wanted to improve the lives of ordinary Americans through these packages, such as easing the cost of childcare.
“There is nothing in any of these bills that is radical and unreasonable,” Biden said.
Mr Biden expressed confidence that both packages would be approved, but declined to set a deadline for when that would happen.
“I believe I can do that,” said President Biden.
