Catania was hit by a tornado, which caused extensive damage. Italian media report that several people were injured, while a good part of the roads were blocked by falling trees.
The municipality calls on citizens to be careful and not to move from their homes. “Citizens are advised not to go out, only in case of an emergency,” the municipality announced.
Also businesses and homes were damaged as a result of the tornado and strong storms, while currently none of the injured have been transported to hospital.
Bad weather has also caused problems at the airport, where four flights were diverted to two other airports.
The violent storm hit several cities in the area of Catania, but also extensive damage was caused in Etna, the media write.
