Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has described Roman Catholic bishops as “terrorists”.
In a statement, Ortega claimed that the violence between the government and opposition groups that began in 2018 was a “foreign-backed coup attempt.”
Referring to the plan presented by the bishops who mediate in incidents of violence, Ortega described the bishops of the Catholic Church as “terrorists”.
“The bishops signed this on behalf of the terrorists, in the service of Yankees, and these bishops are terrorists,” Ortega said.
According to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, in Nicaragua in 2018, in mass protests against the government of the Sandista National Liberation Front led by Daniel Ortega, 325 people were killed and tens of thousands of protesters were imprisoned.AA
