The Taliban say they have arrested four members of the Islamic State (IS) extremist group in northern Kabul. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said they were arrested during an operation in Paghman district, where documents and weapons were also confiscated.
Mujahid gave no further details. The local branch of the Islamic State, Islamic State-Khorasan Province (IS-K), has not commented on the allegations.
Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August, IS-K militants have stepped up attacks against the country’s new rulers.
The latest occurred on October 3, when the group claimed responsibility for a deadly explosion near the entrance of a mosque in Kabul.
The Taliban and IS-K militants are rivals and they have fought each other even before the Taliban took power in Afghanistan.
