The European Union has given the green light to the Blue Card, to attract skilled workers from third countries.
The EU Council today adopted a directive setting out entry and residence conditions for highly qualified third-country nationals who come to live and work in the territory of the Union.
The system aims to attract and retain highly skilled workers, especially in sectors facing skills shortages.
“The blue card will consolidate the EU position as a major global destination for highly skilled workers,” explained Slovenian Interior Minister Ales Hoys.
The approved law will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Gazette. Member States will then have two years to comply with this directive.
