A major anti-drug operation was carried out last night by Turkish police, where a well-known group of Afghans operating in several countries was destroyed. Local media suggest that it is the “Lions” cartel, which is based in Germany, but also operates in other countries, including Turkey.
According to Milliyet, the group’s leader, Sergen Ahmadi, was arrested along with four others in Istanbul after police were informed through a photo on social media that they were in Istanbul that evening. Ahmadi is seen in the middle of the photo in the presence of two girls and several other boys who are believed to be members of the criminal group.
Turkey has often been accused internationally of being the center of trafficking in large quantities of cocaine coming from Latin America, and it appears that these police actions are a response to foreign media articles and reports.
