“The UK is expected to face an unsafe winter due to the coronavirus and the flu,” said Jenny Harries, chief of the Health and Safety Agency.
While encouraging citizens to be careful, Dr Harries also urges them to get vaccinated.
More than 40 million people in the UK this year have the opportunity to get the flu vaccine. This also includes children up to the age of 16.
The flu kills an average of 11,000 people every winter in England.
Studies have shown that people infected with Covid-19 and affected by the flu are twice as likely to die compared to a person who may be alone with coronavirus.
According to a report published by the Academy of Medical Sciences, respiratory diseases could increase this winter.
Harries also stressed that getting the vaccine would prevent hospitalization of patients.
