Voting for the snap general election began in Iraq today (October 10th).
Due to the elections that will end at 18:00, the security forces have increased the measures around the polling stations. Voters will be subject to checks at checkpoints set up in front of polling stations.
Voters will also not be allowed to bring mobile phones to polling stations.
Airports and land borders will also be closed until the voting process is completed.
The country with a population of about 40 million has over 24 million voters. 3,249 candidates for the 329-seat parliament are running in this election. The elections will be monitored by 877 foreign observers.
Election results are expected to be announced within 24 hours by the Iraqi High Electoral Commission.
These elections have the quality of the first general early elections after the protests that erupted against the government of the period in October 2019.//AA
