The extraordinary session of the Austrian parliament, following the resignation of former Chancellor Sebastian Cruz, has been accompanied by unrest.
Opposition Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPO) member Eva Maria Holzleitner fainted during her speech. Colleagues immediately rushed to her aid and as it was later learned, her condition was not critical.
Following her speech, NEOS Beate leader Mainl Reisinger handed over to the new chancellor, Alexander Schalenberg, a document on the charges against the former chancellor and leader of the People’s Party of
Austria (OVP), Sebastian Kurz.
Schalenberg threw the document on the floor behind him.
The opposition reacted violently to this and Schalenberg said he did not intend to show disrespect to the independent judiciary, as some interpreted it.
