The investigation into the causes of the explosion in the port of Beirut, which took place in August last year, has been suspended again.
The investigation was suspended after a judge working on the investigation was asked to be relieved of his duties.
The lawyers of the former Minister of Finance, Ali Hassan Khalil, as well as the former Minister of Public Works and Transport, Gazi Zuaytir, have filed a lawsuit against the investigating judge Tarik Bitar, demanding his “removal”, the National News Agency reported ( NNA) of Lebanon.
The investigation into the explosion in the port of Beirut was suspended until the decision of the Court of Appeals.
Judge Bitar issued an arrest warrant for former Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil, who did not attend the last hearing before seeking his “expulsion”.
Former Finance Minister Khalil is currently a member of parliament from the ranks of the Shiite Amal movement.
In August last year, a fire broke out in an explosives depot in the port of Beirut that caused a very powerful explosion that hit the entire city.
More than 200 people lost their lives in the blast, more than 6,000 others were injured, and 300,000 people were displaced due to the blast.
The blast, which wreaked havoc in the Lebanese capital, came at a time when the country was in the throes of an economic crisis amid fighting the coronavirus pandemic.AA
