Eleven students have drowned and two others are in critical condition after a serious accident at a social event near a river in Indonesia.
About 150 young people aged 13 to 15 were walking along the Cileulur River clearing its banks. The students were members of Islamic extracurricular groups,
According to reports, a group of 21 students had attempted to cross to the other side. Locals managed to rescue ten students.
Authorities said they are investigating the causes of the serious incident. The students had conducted the excursion despite warnings from meteorological agencies about the early arrival of the November rainy season.
In February last year 10 students lost their lives when they were taken by sudden floods during a similar activity in Indonesia.
