The Czech Republic reported on Wednesday over 3,000 new cases of coronavirus – for the first time since April. The figure of 3,246 cases represents more than double what was reported a week earlier, the Ministry of Health said.
Hospital admissions have also increased – from 249 in early October to 620 on 19 October. Of these, 102 patients are in intensive care. The figures, however, are much lower than at the beginning of the year, when the Czech Republic saw the peak of the pandemic.
This country with 10.7 million inhabitants has confirmed over 1.7 million cases of infected and over 30,000 victims. Over 6.03 million Czech citizens are fully vaccinated against coronavirus. Government and health officials say most of the new cases of those infected are among unvaccinated people. The government is expected to discuss during the day the increase in the number of cases and possible measures to curb them.
