The murder of a filmmaker and the wounding of a director in the shooting square has shocked the cinematic world. The protagonist, the famous actor Alec Baldwin, who accidentally turned into a killer while playing the hero. The victim is the director of photography Halyna Hutchins, 42 years old, while the director Joel Souza was injured in the shooting.
In a statement to the AFP news agency, a spokesman for the Santa Fe sheriff said Baldwin had spoken to detectives. “He came voluntarily and left the building after he finished his interview,” the spokesman said.

The filmmaker, Halyna Hutchins was from Ukraine and grew up in a Soviet military base in the Arctic Circle, according to her personal website. She studied journalism in Kiev and film in Los Angeles and was named a “rising star” by American Cinematographer magazine in 2019. She was the director of photography for the 2020 action film Archenemy, directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer.
“I am very saddened by the loss of Halyna. “And so outraged that this could happen on a set,” Mortimer said in a Twitter post.
In a statement, the International Society of Cinematographers said Ms Hutchins’s death was “devastating news” and “a terrible loss”.
“The details are unclear at the moment, but we are working to learn more and we support a full investigation into this tragic event,” said ward president John Lindley and chief executive Rebecca Rhine.
Police said the sheriff’s deputies were taken to Bonanza Creek Ranch, a well-known shooting location, around 1:50 p.m. (19:50 GMT) after receiving an urgent phone call about the shooting at Rust’s shooting.
Incidents such as the fatal shootings of Thursday in the filming of the movie Rust are extremely rare, but not unheard of. Real firearms are often used in filming and are filled with bullet holes that create a flash and a noise without firing a shell.
In 1993, Brandon Lee – the 28-year-old son of the late martial arts star Bruce Lee – died on set after being accidentally shot with a support gun while filming a death scene for The Crow.
It was later determined that the weapon used had previously fired a bullet that caused a cartridge to be placed in the barrel. When empty cartridges were later fired, the cartridge was removed and released.
Referring to the latest news, Brandon Lee’s sister, Shannon, wrote on Twitter: “Our hearts are with the family of Halyna Hutchins and Joel Souza and all those involved in the Rust incident.” “No one should ever be killed by a gun on a movie set.”
