At least four people were shot dead in Washington, D.C., in Tacoma, Washington, on Thursday afternoon as authorities searched for at least one suspect, police said.
The Tacoma Police Department wrote on Twitter that two women and a man had died at the scene and that a man was taken to hospital with life-threatening wounds.
“The person sent to the hospital had died from his wounds. “The victims seemed to be adults,” police told The News Tribune.
The shootings took place on the east side of the city in the Salishan neighborhood.
Police spokeswoman Wendy Haddow said the shooting took place in an alley behind an apartment around 4:24 p.m., and that at least one victim was found on the street in front of the apartment.
Investigators are not sure if the attacker acted alone, Haddow told The Seattle Times. As of 7 p.m., no suspects had been arrested or publicly identified.
Investigators and detectives at the crime scene had blocked several blocks around the shooting scene and are expected to gather evidence overnight, she said.
There have been 27 homicides in Tacoma this year, Haddow said. The city has a population of about 212 thousand inhabitants.
