Britain has registered the highest number of new cases of COVID-19 since July this week, according to government data.
In Britain 333,465 people have tested positive in the last seven days, or about 15 per cent more than the previous week. This is the highest number of new cases in a week since July 21.
Also, in the last seven days, deaths have increased by 12 percent, bringing to 139,878 the number of fatalities since the pandemic began. Britain is the second country in Europe, after Russia, with the highest number of deaths, according to data presented by Johns Hopkins University.
Leading scientists have advised Britain to reinstate measures against COVID-19, including mandatory wearing of masks, vaccine certificates and recommendations for people to work from home.
The emergency scientists’ advisory group has warned of “possible rapid increases in hospital admissions” as coronavirus cases continue to rise.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has downplayed the possibility of reinstating the isolation measure.
Russia, meanwhile, has recorded a record number of deaths for the fifth day in a row, and authorities are preparing to close jobs and impose isolation in the capital.
On October 23, Russia registered 1,075 deaths and 37,678 new cases of coronavirus. This country has one of the lowest levels of coronavirus vaccination in Europe.
