The Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki has stated that if the EU starts a war, the country will be defended with all weapons.
He urged Brussels to withdraw threats of legal and financial sanctions if it wants to resolve the rule of law crisis in the country.
“We will not give up. We will not give up our sovereignty because of this pressure. Poland is now borrowing from private markets to fund its pandemic projects. “We will survive until we receive the money from the EU,” Morawiecki said.
The European Commission has ‘threatened’ Poland with sanctions after the country’s highest court ruled this month that key elements of EU law were incompatible with its constitution.
The ruling marked a major escalation of a legal battle over changes to Poland’s judicial system that Morawieck’s ruling party says are needed to increase efficiency.
Brussels, on the other hand, says they threaten the independence of the judiciary and the basic legal ties that keep the EU united.
