A care worker has been jailed for abusing a Down Syndrome patient after being filmed by a neighbor raping her in the backyard.
Sona Mertova was caught on camera dragging the patient into the garden before screaming at the West Sussex nursing home in June this year.
An anxious neighbor had filmed the incident after hearing a noise. The video was handed over to the police and the officers of the Defense Investigation Unit later arrested Mertova.
She admitted the patient’s mistreatment to the Lewes Crown Court, which immediately sent her to jail.
Judge Mark Van Der Zart said her conduct was not a momentary loss of control and added that she had violated the trust of the victim’s family. The judge sentenced Mertova to six months in prison, from Western Place, Heene, Worthing.
Police Detective Yvonne Daddow, from the Defense Investigation Unit, said the incident caused considerable concern to the victim and his family.
