WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called for the strengthening of the global health system to fight more effectively against epidemics that may occur after COVID-19.
“No institution or country can do this alone. That is why we use the term ‘common sense’ in order to understand the purpose of our goal, “said Ghebreyesus.
“The WHO network will bring together scientists, inventors, politicians, health experts and civil society representatives from around the world. Opinions presented by experts in various fields will accelerate diagnostic activities against pandemics.
“Countries and societies with the flow of accurate information can prevent growing health risks and can save lives,” Ghebreyesus said.
“Epidemic risk is also driven by developments such as urbanization, deforestation and climate change,” he added.
The head of the WHO stressed that new technologies provide opportunities for pandemics to be predicted, diagnosed and prevented earlier.
According to him, saving lives by taking advantage of the power of new technologies is not an opportunity, but a necessity.
