WHO Director-General Tentros Antanom Gkempreesous has called on world leaders to learn from the current pandemic and prepare for the future.
“We have to be prepared for the future in case we get a new virus,” he said.
In a meeting with the ministers of health and finance, Gkempreesous stressed that more funding should be secured and a new mechanism set up to guarantee a swift response in the event that new pandemics break out in the future.
“We must be able to respond in the face of any situation,” he said.
He also called on G20 member states to support the establishment of a Health Threat Financing Council and the conclusion of an agreement.
