Australia announced today that it has recognized the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine for those who want to travel to this country.
The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) said it had received “additional information demonstrating that these vaccines provide protection and potentially reduce the likelihood that an incoming traveler will transmit COVID-19 infection to others while in Australia or contracting COVID.” -19 ”.
Recognition of the Chinese vaccine by Australia comes at a time when bilateral relations between the two countries are at an all-time low, prompted by Canberra’s request to investigate the origin of the coronavirus.
The country also recognized Covaxin, manufactured by Bharat Biotech of India.
Canberra had already known the other Chinese vaccine produced by Sinovac, according to the TGA statement.
Recognition of Chinese and Indian vaccines “means that many citizens of China and India, as well as other countries in our region where these vaccines are widely distributed, will now be considered fully vaccinated upon entry into Australia.”
“This will have significant implications for the return of international students and the travel of skilled and unskilled workers to Australia,” the statement added.
Australia has reported 172,030 cases of COVID-19, including 1,743 deaths, since the pandemic outbreak in December 2019.
Worldwide, deaths caused by COVID-19 have risen to over five million in less than two years.
