Austria will put all the unvaccinated in a ‘lockdown’. From Monday, November 8, anyone who is not immune can not enter restaurants, hotels, cultural events, sports and will be excluded from various activities. In the first 4 weeks the first dose and tampon will be enough to have access to public places. Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg has justified these measures with the large number of cases with Covid in Austria (9388 just the day before).
“When we get in the car we put on our seat belts, the Covid vaccine is our seat belt,” Schallenberg said. The unvaccinated are also excluded from skiing and will no longer be able to access ski implants, even as visitors, hospitals and nursing homes. Moreover, Ffp2 masks become mandatory in shops, museums and libraries.
In Austria, the vaccination campaign has been slow for some time, with only 63.1% immunized. Chancellor Schallenberg quoted Pope Francis as calling vaccination an act of love. The third dose is recommended after six months. The green leave will be valid for nine months after the last dose. The head of government has warned against those who “polarize” the issue in politics. “It’s time to act together, that is, to vaccinate at full speed,” said Governor Guenther Platter.
Health Minister Wolfgang Mueckstein called on Austrians to get the flu vaccine as well. “We are facing a new wave and we need to be ready,” he said. Finally, the minister harshly criticized “politicians who spread false news.”
