Immigrants’ attempts to cross the Poland-Belarus border illegally have become the focus of attention due to the tensions caused.
“Poland or Germany alone can not afford the problem,” said German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer.
Germany calls on the EU to take concrete action to prevent the massive influx of migrants to this border.
“The EU must form a common front. Poland or Germany cannot tackle the problem alone. We must help the Polish government achieve security at its external borders and this must also be a matter for the European Commission. “I call for action to be taken,” he reiterated.
Poland, on the other hand, has announced that it has thwarted the efforts of hundreds of migrants, while it has been suggested that there is a fear of an escalation of the situation as due to the tense situation there may be a border with a higher security.
While the EU has accused the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko of air transportation of migrants from the Middle East and Africa to Minks and then sent them to cross the border into EU countries. But these accusations are denied Lukashenko.
In the face of the crisis, EC President Ursula Vonder Leyen on Monday called on EU member states to adopt new sanctions.
Germany, which borders Poland, has seen an increase in the number of migrants and refugees from Belarus.
According to German authorities, in October alone, they reached 5,000.
Berlin responded by increasing border controls with Poland as well as increasing the number of police officers there.
