The son of ousted former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Saif al-Islam, has submitted his candidacy for the presidential election in Libya scheduled for December 24.
The press director of the Libyan High Electoral Commission, Khalid al-Manai, in a statement to AA confirmed that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, going to the commission office in the city of Sabha, has officially applied for his candidacy in the elections.
With this, Gaddafi appeared for the first time since the overthrow of his father’s regime in 2011.
Gaddafi is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity. The Office of the Chief Military Prosecutor of Libya had also issued an arrest warrant for Saif al-Islam on charges of “murder” and “use of mercenaries.”AA
