Four people were killed and a child seriously injured after a plane crashed on Beaver Island north of Lake Michigan.
The Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the plane left Charlevoix at 1:32 p.m. with five people on board. It was destined for Welke Airport on the island near Little Traverse Bay. The plane crashed near Welke at 13:47
The U.S. Coast Guard said the plane transported two people to the hospital, a man and a child. The man did not survive, the sheriff’s office said.
The Coast Guard wrote on Twitter that the injured child is an 11-year-old girl. The names of other people on the plane have not been made public and are awaiting family notification.
The cause of the crash is still unknown. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
