Its story resembles that of movies and documentaries for the mystery it contains.
It is about the murder of a cheerleader in Texas in the distant year 1974.
For 50 years, the murder of 17-year-old Carla Walker remained unsolved. She was executed after a school Valentine’s party, but her body was found three days later near a lake.
The teenager was with her boyfriend, Rodney McCoy, in a Fort Worth parking lot in February 1974 when they were attacked.
The murderer hit McCoy in the head with a pistol before dragging Carla out of the car, raping her, and then killing her.
For decades, her relatives have suffered not only from her loss, but also from the fact that the perpetrator of the incident was not found.
That is until now, when a private lab used a new technique to test a DNA sample found in Carla’s prescriptions to build a reliable profile of the suspected perpetrator and help find his.
After building a genetic profile, within weeks they were able to search DNA databases to find the perpetrator.
The author was actually a person who at the time of the event was interrogated by the authorities but no evidence was ever found to secure his conviction.
