At least 12 people lost their lives and dozens more were injured in an accident on the Zagreb-Gorican highway on Saturday morning. The accident victims have been sent to different hospitals, where they are receiving the necessary medical treatment.
According to information, the serious accident happened around 05:30. The bus, which veered off the road and fell into a canal, was carrying pilgrims heading to Medjugorje from the Polish town of Tomaszow Mazowiecki, which is about 1,350 km from the final destination.
There is still no data on the causes of the accident or the circumstances in which it happened, but it is initially suspected that the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The police went to the scene and are conducting investigations. While the firefighting teams made it possible to get the victims and the injured out of the bus.
