Fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces has not stopped. Meanwhile, the parties have accused each other of bombing the biggest nuclear power plant in Europe, that of Zaporizhia. In its weekly report, the UK Ministry of Defense said that Russian forces are massing in southern Ukraine in anticipation of a counter-offensive or a possible attack.
Russia and Ukraine accused each other of bombing Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhia.
Shells hit a high-voltage line at the plant, causing a reactor to shut down. Fortunately, there was no radioactive leak.
The nuclear plant was taken over by Russian forces in early March, but it is still run by Ukrainian technicians.
Ukraine’s state-owned Nuclear Power Company, Energoatom, blamed Russia for the attack. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy also said Moscow was responsible, calling the incident an act of terror.
On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense accused the Ukrainian forces of bombing the plant, saying that it was only a matter of luck that there was no radioactive leak.
Meanwhile, fighting continues in Ukraine. Local forces are trying to strengthen their positions around the eastern city of Sloviansk, in anticipation of a Russian offensive to capture the strategic point, the city of Donetsk.
The UK Ministry of Defense said Russian troops were massing in the south in anticipation of Ukrainian counter-offensives or preparing for a possible attack.
The American Institute for War Studies said that Russian forces launched ground attacks, but failed, in residential areas south of the city of Bakhmut. They also carried out some limited ground attacks in the north, northwest and southwest of Donetsk city.
Despite the fighting, the export of vibration continues. Three ships left the Black Sea ports, heading for Turkey for inspection. The Ukrainian authorities have announced that they hope to increase grain shipments from 1 to about 3.5 million metric tons per month within a few months./VOA/
