The First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, met with Liz Truss, the newly appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, in New York, where they arrived to attend the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly.
The corresponding statement was made by the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska on Telegram.
According to Ukraine’s First Lady, Truss assured her that she would be Ukraine’s greatest friend and the UK would not stop until Ukraine wins, and Putin fails and suffers a strategic defeat in Ukraine.
On behalf of the Ukrainian people, Zelenska expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for its principled and uncompromising support provided during these months of Ukraine’s struggle against the Russian aggressor.
“We talked about the need to continue helping Ukraine, namely with weapons. Together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Sergiy Kyslytsya, we discussed with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom the terrible consequences of the Russian occupation: the forced deportation of Ukrainian children, the terrible camps of filtering, crimes against humanity committed by the Russians, which cannot be justified. This is a serious violation of international humanitarian law and a war crime,” Zelenska noted.
According to her, the Ukrainian authorities are already thinking about the reconstruction of the country. Therefore, the First Lady of Ukraine called to contribute to the Rapid Recovery Plan and promote the reconstruction of Ukraine.
“I believe that the principled stance of the United Kingdom and Mrs. Liz Truss will help us stop the genocide and punish the perpetrators,” Zelenska added.
The 77th session of the UN General Assembly opened in New York on 20 September 2022.
