Six children among injured people in hospital after attack in Zaporizhzhia, governor says.
The number of people affected by the Russian bombing in the city of Zaporizhzhia is still unclear.
Earlier, authorities said 17 people had been killed, then dozens more were killed or injured.
Oleksandr Starukh, the governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, has now said that at least 12 people were killed and 49 were taken to hospital.
In the Telegram post below, he says: “Tonight the enemy used tactical aviation for a missile attack on the regional center.
“According to preliminary information, planes fired 12 rockets at Zaporizhzhia.
“Most of the rockets hit high-rise residential buildings and private houses in one of the districts of Zaporizhzhia.
“A nine-story building was partially destroyed, five houses were destroyed, infrastructure facilities were affected.
“Twenty cars were damaged. 12 people have died so far. Forty-nine victims were hospitalized, including six children.
“The information is being clarified, there may be people under the ruins.
“A rescue operation is underway at the scene. Eight people have already been rescued. The victims have been offered the necessary assistance.”
