The United States may impose sanctions on people, countries and companies that provide ammunition to Russia or support its military industrial complex, the US Treasury Department said on Friday.
Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said the department would issue guidance to make clear Washington is willing and able to impose such a crackdown.
He made the comments at a meeting with officials from 32 countries to discuss sanctions against Russia.
Mr. Adeyemo said in prepared remarks released by Treasury: “This morning, Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control is issuing guidance making it clear that we are willing and able to sanction people, companies or countries that provide ammunition to Russia or support the Russian army”.
He added that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security will also issue an alert “outlining our actions against Russia’s military-industrial complex and the risks to those who provide material support to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine”.
Washington has imposed several sets of sanctions on Russia since it invaded Ukraine in February.
