The Russian president may not be bluffing when he talks about his nuclear threats against Ukraine, but neither is the West bluffing when it says that the Russian military will be annihilated if Russia uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
EU High Representative Josep Borrell said this in his speech at the launch of the European Diplomatic Academy in Bruges. The full text of his speech is published on the website of the European External Action Service.
“There is a nuclear threat and Putin says he is not bluffing. Well, he can’t handle the bluff. And it should be clear that people support Ukraine, the European Union, the Member States, the United States and NATO. “Any nuclear attack against Ukraine will create a response, not a nuclear response, but a military response so powerful that the Russian military will be annihilated,” Borrell said.
He noted that the world is finally out of the Cold War and post-Cold War.
“We are certainly also living a ‘moment of creation’ of a new world. Because this war is changing many things, and it is certainly changing the European Union. This war will create a different European Union, from different perspectives. This is a serious moment in history and we must show our unity, our strength and our determination. Total determination,” said Borrell.
